...forgot to mention Piries !

...the red wine is kicking in. Thanks to everyone who pitched up for our gig at Piries Bar the other week.

As usual it was a great night, helped by the late night Easter holiday extension (man I wish I was drinking that night). It may resemble playing in a walnut shell but its damn good fun.

Spring is in the air, and a bands thoughts turn to....recording.

As promised we have begun recording a new Embers EP...and it may even become an album.

I converted my garage into a studio last year and I have now got it in shape to record some serious tunes.

We got together on Wednesday night with the objective of recording some acoustic tracks with the band just playing live straight off the bat, so we can upload a few of them to keep you satisfied until we get into the serious stuff. We ended up recording Salvation, Up Down Town, and a new song City Life. I will get them mixed over the next week and I'll let you know when they are available for download.

The session was really a dry run for a couple of weeks time when we are spending two or three days to record some new material for our forthcoming EP. We are really looking forward to this. The band is hotter than a snakes ass in a wagon rut and with time to spare in our very own studio, we really want to come up with something special.

The Embers rising high in the charts...

...well kind of. Thought I'd give you an update on the bands progress on garageband.com.

This is one of the best new music websites out there as all the songs are reviewed & rated by other bands/muso's, and luminaries such as George Martin & Brian Eno are on the advisory board to give the successful bands advice etc.

We've been on the site for a few weeks now and after cutting our teeth on about 20 different song reviews, we were rewarded with being allowed to upload one of ours. We chose 'Where are you now?'. The reviews we have been getting are really positive (With the notible exception of one numb-nut from Australia with as much musical insight as a wombat...but we're not bitter), and we are currently number 42 in our genre.

You can read the reviews here .... pretty cool huh ? Well if that wasn't all good enough, we were pretty pumped when we heard that 'Where are you now?' has been selected by Garageband.com to be the song of the day on Friday 21st April in the Folk/Rock category (don't worry we haven't started growing beards and wearing Aran Sweaters).

Hope you can check in on garageband on Friday and see how we're doing, maybe leave us some feedback.

I'm off to find an Australian I can batter.

David Jensen's Review of 'Songs for Phillip'

David Jensen's thoughts on the launch party and his review of the 'Songs for Phillip' album is in the local press this weekend.

Songs for Phillip was a charity acoustic album project that was the brain child of Si Fever-Leach, (The Embers' previous bass player). Si left The Embers in Christmas 2005 to pursue this project and focus on his six string playing.

We wrote 'Love...but in Reverse' specifically for this album and it was a pleasure to be involved in the project.

Here is an extract of his article on 'Songs for Phillip'.

I currently host the mid-morning show on the Capital Gold Network; and over the many years I’ve been in radio, I have never lost my enthusiasm for finding new talent and being excited by promising new stars, and so Songs For Phillip provides some real personal pleasure.

This album therefore is a real joy and several songs have found their way onto my own kitchen playlist. My late, great Rhythm Pal, John Peel, would have loved to have been with me at The Drill Hall to enjoy some of the musicians on show, who are all on the recording. Although the release is an acoustic treat, there is enough variety on offer to both stimulate and also entertain. From the crazed dynamics of one man band, Telemachus with “Abducted By Pixies” to the more conventional rock style of father and son duo, Nick and Jak Paxton with “Been There Done That”, there is a terrific fusion of styles. “Comfort in Cashmere” by This Lonely Soul is both intimate and heartfelt, while Zaubereis' beautiful “Dream of You” is an irresistible combination of voice and guitar which closes the collection of 14 songs. I also like the vocals on The Embers' offering, “Love, but in reverse” with its timeless lyrics and catchy chorus. The opener is another firm favourite of mine. It's called “Distorted Blue” by the trio Zevicon and was a real crowd pleaser on the night.

A great gig, and another sixty pounds raised for cancer charity

We had at great time at Piries last night. Thanks for showing up, there was a real holiday buzz around the place.

In the break we took the opportunity to sell some more of the Songs for Phillip charity albums that we appeared on with loads of other local artists. We raised another £60 so thanks for you help there.

I will get some pictures up of the gig as soon as I can.

Podshows Kill Commercial Radio?

Ahh ...if only. I can't remember the last time I actually listened to a commercial radio station. The mainstream bores me..does it you ? I want to listen to really cool new tunes played by those who just love the music with no commercial agenda. full stop.

There are some podshows out there at the moment doing just that - and
are really starting to make some waves...they have an unheard of
underground, but global, feeling to them..reminds me of that kitsch
cult 90's film "Pump Up The Volume" with
Christian Slater as the pirate DJ ("Talk Hard") with all the kids in
his town listening to him...but instead the globe is tuning in.

We're really into some awesome podshows from the states at the moment such as Accident Hash & U-Turn Cafe both run by the superb CC Chapman. That will do for starters.

Check back for more. "The King Is Dead, Long Live The King.

Radiohead call music industry 'retards'

Some news I picked up today about Radiohead....it's restored my faith that maybe one day soon Radiohead will be cool again.

"Radiohead's Thom Yorke calls the music industry "a bunch of fucking retards" in this week's issue of NME.
The singer has launched a scathing attack on record companies and radio stations as he believes they are only just now looking at the internet for new talent."

This Ember member needs more hours in the day to get things done.....

Sorry its taken so long to get the site & the new blog up and running but we are there now !

There is much going on with the band and we are busier than we've ever been getting things into shape for the spring.

Our gig next week at Piries Bar, Horsham will be our first full electric set with the new band line up and we really can't wait to rip it up.

Songs for Phillip has taken up our time recently which is why we've been slow getting the new site up, but it has been such a great project to be involved with.

We've been having some success stateside recently, The Jerseytodd Podshow picked up 'Where are you now?' and gave us a great review, you can find us in show No.16. There is some really great stuff going on in podsafe music, get over to some of these website and check it out.
